Jan Hackney, a Georgia native, is a devoted community activist in the Sandy Springs and Roswell communities. She has served on the PTA Executive Boards of Spalding Drive Elementary School, Sandy Springs Middle School, and North Springs High School. Presently, she donates much of her time to the AIDS Survival Project, which provides significant resources to those who have just received a diagnosis of AIDS or HIV infection. Hackney also supports a local women’s shelter, assisting and advocating for the victims of domestic violence. In her first attempt at the State House in 2004, Jan received 47% of the vote in a typically conservative district. Because of this, her district has been targeted as one of the most competitive in the state. Hackney earned her degree from the University of Georgia Terry School of Business. She is a graduate of Chamblee High School. Hackney and her husband, Don, who is an attorney, have two children. She is a member of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Sandy Springs, and she is a supporter of its mission program to Haiti. |
