Melanie C. Eyre is a partner at Drew Eckl & Farnham, LLP, in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been with the firm since April 1996, and practiced for several years before that in Virginia and California. Melanie graduated from the George Washington University National Law Center (now Law School) with honors in 1987. Before her graduation from law school, Melanie spent six years on active duty in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California and Washington, D.C., working as both an enlisted member and later as an officer. While enlisted, Melanie worked as an aviation electrician’s mate and then as photographer’s mate, leaving enlisted service after two years as an E-4. She then attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating first in her class and becoming commissioned as an ensign. After commissioning, she worked in the areas of family support and financial planning. She received an honorable discharge in 1984 as a Lieutenant (03), and remained a drilling reservist throughout law school. Because she began law school while still on active duty and continued to work full time throughout law school, Melanie attended George Washington’s evening program. Her practice focuses primarily on products liability and insurance defense in state and federal courts. For several years she served as one of two national coordinating counsel for products liability-related discovery for a large national manufacturer, working extensively on discovery and pretrial matters throughout the country and providing guidance in discovery and other matters in a large, national litigation. In connection with this representation, Ms. Eyre appeared on NBC’s prime-time news magazine show Dateline in January of 2001 to discuss a case that involved issues then receiving national attention. As a parent of two special needs children, Melanie has been active in their schooling, advocating for proper resources, placement, and educational opportunities. She is a member of the North Fulton Optimist’s Club, an organization that works to create recreational opportunities for disabled children and youth in North Fulton. She is also active in the North Metro Miracle League, an organization that provides athletic programs for disabled children, youth, and adults. She is a member of the Northbrook United Methodist Church, and has taught Sunday School and confirmation class, and has done mission work for hurricane relief in Florida with middle school students. Melanie is a board member of the ACLU of Georgia, a Federal Club member of the Human Rights Campaign, and a member of the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and the American Constitution Society. Melanie and her partner of 17 years have three children and live in Roswell, Georgia. The District: District 46 includes the City of Mountain Park, parts of the City of Roswell and parts of the City of Alpharetta. It includes the new cities of Milton and Johns Creek, as well. It contains approximately 34,000 registered voters. |
